John L. Whitehead

I am a shareholder at Wiener, Weiss & Madison, A Professional Corporation. Before joining the firm, I spent nearly 30 years as general counsel for a Louisiana community bank with branches in both Louisiana and Texas. In that role, I managed the bank’s exposure to legal risks across all areas of its business. This included overseeing the compliance and BSA departments, handling litigation and bankruptcy matters, and providing guidance on products and services. I also led advocacy efforts related to proposed laws, rules, and regulations affecting the banking industry. My responsibilities extended to serving as legal counsel for real estate acquisitions, bank branch applications, mergers and acquisitions, and change in control applications. Additionally, I represented both the bank and its holding company in a wide range of litigation matters. Outside of my practice, I frequently speak on topics related to banking, foreclosure, and bankruptcy.
