About

In April 2009, Somali pirates seized the Maersk Alabama in the Gulf of Aden. The crew fought back, retook the ship, and Captain Richard Phillips was rescued by Navy SEALs. Brian Beckcom represented approximately half the crew. Brian has recovered $455 million for clients who chose elite trial lawyers over mass market advertisers. He has represented 141 individual seamen in maritime injury, wrongful death, Jones Act negligence, maintenance and cure, and unseaworthiness claims, and tries cases in federal and state court across the country. Brian is the founding partner of VB Attorneys, a Houston trial law firm he built with his partner, Vuk Vujasinovic. The firm is deliberately low-volume — a Board Certified partner leads every case personally from intake through verdict. The firm's largest confidential recoveries are eight-figure settlements. A seventh-generation Texan, Brian earned dual degrees in Computer Science and Philosophy at Texas A&M, where he served in the Corps of Cadets and the Ross Volunteers. He earned his J.D. with honors at the University of Texas School of Law, where he was Chief Notes Editor of the Texas Law Review, a research assistant to Professor Charles Alan Wright, and a student of admiralty under Professor David W. Robertson. His law review article on federal supplemental jurisdiction was cited by the United States in a brief to the Supreme Court and has been cited as authority more than twenty-four times. Brian is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization — a certification held by fewer than two percent of Texas attorneys.
