Steven King

I’m Steven M. King, a North Carolina family law attorney based in Asheville. I earned my Juris Doctor cum laude from Michigan State University College of Law in 2016, and I made Western North Carolina my home in 2017. I began my legal career representing families through the Child Support Services agencies serving Buncombe, Transylvania, and Polk Counties, where I developed a practical, inside understanding of how child support cases move through the system—and how those decisions affect real families. From there, I transitioned into private practice focused on family law, and in August 2025 I opened The Law Office of Steven M. King to provide clients with thoughtful, steady guidance during some of the most consequential seasons of their lives. Today, my practice is almost exclusively family law. I’m known for being highly communicative, diligent in preparation, and zealous in advocacy—without losing sight of the human side of the case. I’m a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and the Buncombe County Bar Association, and I am admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina.
