About
Juanita "Janie" Jaimez is a bilingual criminal defense and immigration attorney — fluent in English and Spanish — serving clients throughout Brownsville, Harlingen, Cameron County, and Houston. Born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley and a graduate of South Texas College of Law, she brings deep local roots and a prosecution background that most defense attorneys simply don't have. Before opening her practice, Janie spent eight years at the Cameron County District Attorney's Office, prosecuting cases across County Courts 1, 2, and 3 and the 107th District Court. She served as both Chief Juvenile Prosecutor and Misdemeanor Intake Section Chief — experience that now directly informs how she defends clients facing criminal and juvenile charges in the same courts. In 2020, Janie was elected Justice of the Peace for Precinct 5, Place 3 of Cameron County, where she presided over Class C misdemeanors, small claims, landlord-tenant disputes, and inquests. That judicial experience gives her a perspective on the courtroom that few attorneys hold from three different sides — prosecutor, judge, and defense attorney. She founded the Law Office of Juanita "Janie" Jaimez, P.L.L.C. in 2021 and is admitted to practice in the State of Texas and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. She represents clients in criminal defense, immigration, juvenile defense, and personal injury — and for immigrants facing criminal charges, she handles both the criminal and immigration consequences under one roof. Janie is a member of the Cameron County Bar Association, past president of the CCBA Women's Law Section, and a past member of the Texas Bar Association's Texas Minority Steering Committee.
