About
I earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Texas at El Paso, graduating with honors in 1988. I completed my law degree at the University of Houston Law Center in 1991, finishing in the top third of my class. During my time at the University of Houston Law Center, I worked as a student attorney at the University of Houston Legal Aid Clinic, focusing solely on family law cases. I also interned as a law clerk for the late Judge John Montgomery in the 309th District Court of Harris County, Texas, a court that deals exclusively with family law matters. In my second and third years of law school, I served as a law clerk for Oscar Nipper, Esq., a general-practice attorney. After graduating, I continued to work there as a staff attorney until 1992. In 1992, I relocated to San Antonio and started my own practice, establishing The Law Office of J. Michael Clay, P.C. Since then, I have assisted hundreds of clients in and around Bexar County, Texas, primarily with family law matters. I am a member of the Texas Bar Association (Family Law Division) and the San Antonio Bar Association. I am licensed to practice law by the Supreme Court of Texas in all Texas courts, and I am also authorized to practice in the Federal District Court for the Western Division of Texas.
