Gary Joseph Barton

Gary J. Barton is the founder of Barton & Associates, Attorneys at Law, a San Antonio-based firm serving clients throughout Bexar, Travis and Nueces Counties. A Board Certified Criminal Defense Attorney by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, Gary brings a rare perspective to defense work: he spent the early years of his career as a felony prosecutor in New Mexico — handling death penalty and homicide cases — before returning to Texas as a Bexar County Felony Assistant District Attorney. There, he made history as the youngest prosecutor ever to lead a Major Crimes Unit in Texas, focusing exclusively on Capital Murder prosecutions. That prosecutorial background now serves his clients directly. With more than 100 jury trials tried to verdict across Texas and New Mexico, Gary understands how the state builds its cases — and how to dismantle them. He holds a J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law and an MBA from the Texas Tech Rawls College of Business, a combination that proves especially valuable in high-asset divorce and complex financial litigation.
