About
Christopher J. Zaruba is a founding partner at Smit Zaruba P.C. He spent twelve years at a well-known suburban firm representing clients in family law matters, including parentage, child support, guardianship, dissolution of marriage, DCFS appeals, and post-decree issues. He has handled thousands of contested and uncontested cases across the Chicagoland area, advocating for clients through both negotiated resolutions and litigation. Mr. Zaruba previously served as an Assistant State’s Attorney in DuPage County from 2009 to 2014. He began in the traffic and misdemeanor division, prosecuting cases involving DUI, domestic battery, and orders of protection. In 2012, he was named Outstanding Misdemeanor Prosecutor of the Year. He later worked in the Felony Juvenile Division alongside DCFS on cases involving abused or neglected children, and then in the Felony Trial Division, prosecuting serious offenses such as drug crimes, burglary, and aggravated battery. He tried more than 300 cases, including numerous jury trials, and completed trial advocacy training through the National District Attorney’s Association. He was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court in 2014 and is a member of the United States Supreme Court, Illinois State, and DuPage County bar associations. Mr. Zaruba earned his Juris Doctor from The John Marshall Law School, where he received top honors in Evidence and Federal Criminal Procedure and clerked for the Honorable John W. Darrah. He earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Illinois, along with a minor in History. He is active in the DuPage County Bar Association, serves on its Board of Directors, and is a member of the American Inns of Court. Outside of his practice, he enjoys time in Wisconsin, community involvement, and local golf leagues. Call 630-480-7600 to schedule a consultation.
