About
Kristi Severo brings nearly ten years of courtroom experience to Shipman Wright & Moore. She spent most of her career in the New Hanover and Pender County District Attorney’s Office, where she handled a wide range of serious cases. Kristi was often assigned to some of the toughest and most high-profile trials in the region, including the prosecution of a former Wilmington police officer charged with assault with intent to kill. She quickly built a reputation as a prosecutor who came prepared, fought hard, and never lost sight of fairness. For six years, Kristi led the Vehicular Homicide Unit in New Hanover County, focusing on cases involving impaired and reckless driving. Her dedication in that role earned her recognition across the state, including being named MADD’s Prosecutor of the Year for her work on behalf of victims and highway safety. Kristi also carved out a unique path in digital evidence. She founded the Digital Forensics Committee, bringing together federal and state examiners to improve how digital evidence is collected and used in court. Today, she still consults with experts around the country and is considered a go-to resource in the field. At Shipman Wright & Moore, Kristi puts her trial experience to work in civil cases ranging from family law to complex litigation. She’s known for her steady, strategic approach and her ability to stay calm and clear-headed under pressure. Clients, judges, and juries alike value her ability to connect on a personal level, making her a strong advocate both inside and outside the courtroom. Kristi grew up in New Bern, North Carolina, and later earned degrees in Political Science and Business Administration from UNC Wilmington. She started out working in the District Attorney’s Office as a Victim Witness Legal Assistant, which inspired her to attend law school while working full time.
