Dean graduated with honors from UCLA, studying Communications and English Literature. Furthering his education, he earned a Master of Entrepreneurship degree, with honorable distinction, from the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand. Dean braved the midwestern winters to complete his J.D. at the University of Michigan Law School, and later returned to his native San Diego to earn an LL.M. in taxation from the University of San Diego.
