Mr. Mahoney has been a leader in the field of representing victims of childhood sexual abuse. His $2.75 million dollar jury verdict in the case of Tim Doe v. St. Francis Medical Center was affirmed by the Connecticut Supreme Court. In doing so the Supreme Court recognized for the first time the duty of institutions to protect children in their care. In the case of John Doe v. Boys and Girls Village Attorney Mahoney and his partner Attorney Robinson achieved a jury verdict in the amount of $1.25 million dollars on behalf of a boy who was sexually abused by his teacher. The verdict was against the health care provider of the boy who had reason to believe the boy was being abused but did not report that information to the proper officials. Mr. Mahoney served as lead counsel in the case of Estate of Blackwell v. Town of Seymour which involved a car accident where three young men were killed and a fourth was left as an amputee. The case was brought against an off duty Seymour police officer and alleged his negligence in failing to stop a drunk driver. The jury returned a verdict in excess of $16 million dollars with over $6 million attributed to the Town of Seymour. Mr. Mahoney has over 50 jury verdicts, five of which are in excess of one million dollars. He has tried to jury verdict cases which include car accidents, negligence by police officers, negligence by professionals, bars over serving alcohol, children who were sexually abused, motorcycle accidents, and others.
