About
Michael Helock is dedicated to helping people during some of the most stressful and vulnerable times of their lives. He believes that every person deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect—especially when facing the weight of the criminal justice system. His practice is built on a client-centered, trauma-informed approach, focusing on meeting people where they are and guiding them forward with clarity and care. Before joining Reynolds Defense Firm, Michael built his career in public defense in Lane County, where he handled a wide variety of misdemeanor and felony cases, from arraignment to resolution. His work frequently involved clients facing mental health challenges, and he earned a reputation for being patient, steady, and deeply committed to each person’s unique circumstances. He prides himself on building genuine trust—something he considers essential for effective advocacy and achieving meaningful results. Michael’s perspective is also shaped by his experience within the Lane County District Court as a judicial assistant. That “behind the bench” experience gave him a practical understanding of how judges make decisions, how cases move through the system, and which strategies prove most persuasive in the courtroom. Michael brings a thoughtful and balanced presence to his cases. He works diligently not only to advocate for strong legal outcomes but also to help his clients feel informed, supported, and empowered throughout the process. He knows that a person’s most difficult moment should never define their future, and he is proud to stand by their side as they move toward brighter days. Outside of work, Michael enjoys playing golf, exploring his passion for photography and videography, cooking, and attending concerts. He plays the guitar and often relaxes by skateboarding, snowboarding, and practicing meditation. He also continues to give back to the community through expungement clinics and community legal service projects.
