About
Mr. Helm, a Phillips ADR neutral, has mediated disputes up to ten figures in securities, class actions, shareholder disputes, corporate transactions, mass torts, professional liability, land use, sexual misconduct, ERISA, and intellectual property. He serves on the PG&E bankruptcy mediator panel and studied mediation at the Straus Institute. Previously, he was on the U.S. District Court, Central District of California ADR panel. A panelist on the American Arbitration Association roster and Institute for Transnational Arbitration advisory board, Mr. Helm has arbitrated business and consumer disputes and advocated in complex arbitrations involving asset management, trade secrets, and international investments. Before Phillips ADR, Mr. Helm was a trial and appellate lawyer at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, specializing in asset management, intellectual property, trade secrets, and director duties. He handled antitrust, mass torts, and investigations, served as co-managing partner (2005-2010), and was named one of Lawdragon’s top managing partners in 2008. Mr. Helm clerksed for Chief Justice Warren E. Burger and Judge Carl McGowan. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School (President, Harvard Law Review) and Harvard College. Active in diversifying the legal profession, he helped develop the Mansfield Rule and served as an NGO observer at Guantanamo Bay. A jazz enthusiast, Mr. Helm plays piano and attends the New Orleans Jazz Festival. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Cathy, and has twin daughters.
