Norman Alan Chernin

Mr. Chernin earned a B.A. in International Relations from UCLA and a J.D. from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, where he was elected to membership in the St. Thomas More Law Honor Society, and where he placed first in the School’s Scott Moot Court competition. Mr.Chernin has been a practicing attorney in California for more than fifty years, focusing primarily on all aspects of real property law, including but not limited to, acquisitions and sales, land use, construction, and mortgage financing. He was Regional Counsel for The Prudential Realty Group, the real estate investment division of The Prudential Insurance Company of America (now Prudential Financial, Inc.) for more than 20 years, Counsel for Hilton Hotels Corporation, Special Title Counsel for the Los Angeles office of the National Commercial Services Division of First American Title Insurance Company and then Underwriting Counsel for the Fidelity family of title companies (Fidelity Title, Chicago Title, Commonwealth Land Title, Ticor Title and Novare Title and Escrow Services). In the latter capacity, he has underwritten title insurance coverage for thousands of commercial transactions comprising office and industrial buildings, hotels, shopping centers, ski resorts, large tracts of land, paper mills and other specialty uses. He has also counseled escrow officers handling the closing of these often complicated transactions involving defeasances, tax credit financing, bond indentures, etc. In addition to being a member of the California State Bar, he has been active in the Real Property Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, where he has been a Past Chair, and is currently a member of the Section’s Executive Committee. He is also a member of the Real Property Law Section of the California Lawyers Association. Mr. Chernin has been a speaker at seminars on real estate and title issues presented by the Los Angeles County Bar Association Real Property Section and other organizations.
