Joshua David McKarcher

After spending several years as an associate attorney working in insurance insolvency and corporate bankruptcy with Covington & Burling LLP in Washington, DC, I returned with my family to my hometown of Clarkston, Washington. There, I practiced law at Clements, Brown & McNichols in Lewiston, Idaho, for four years. I founded McKarcher Law PLLC in Clarkston in 2017 to focus exclusively on estate planning and administration. During law school, I interned for a federal district judge in DC, served as Managing Editor of The George Washington Law Review, and graduated Order of the Coif in the top 2% of my class. At Covington & Burling, I successfully argued and won a precedent-setting corporate bankruptcy case before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, helping over 100 employees obtain the severance pay they had rightly earned. At Clements, Brown & McNichols, I argued and won two cases before the Idaho Supreme Court. Additionally, I was retained by a national banking association to draft and file an amicus brief in a business bankruptcy appeal before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, advocating a position that the court agreed with in overruling two lower courts. My background in international insolvency and estate resolution, and the hidden traps in all "estate" contexts, shapes the way I approach estate planning and administration. I see it as an opportunity to help clients minimize risks, ease burdens on their loved ones, provide greater flexibility for beneficiaries, minimize estate and income taxes, and provide their beneficiaries meaningful asset protection to protect their inheritances after my clients' deaths.
