About

Mr. Rothbort is a trial lawyer concentrating his practice in personal injury, medical malpractice and civil rights litigation. Prior to joining Mazie Slater Katz & Freeman, Mr. Rothbort worked at an insurance defense firm where he acquired significant trial experience, taking numerous cases to verdict. Amongst his accomplishments, Mr. Rothbort was trial counsel (second chair) and helped obtain a $10 million settlement in the civil rights matter of Xavier Ingram v. Camden County. This settlement is believed to be the largest settlement of any police brutality case in New Jersey history and one of the largest ever nationwide. In 2019, Mr. Rothbort was recognized as the Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year by the Essex County Bar Association. From 2018 to 2022, Mr. Rothbort was named to the “Rising Star” list in the Super Lawyers Magazine. Mr. Rothbort has been Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney, a distinction held by less than 3% of practicing attorneys in NJ. A “Certified Trial Attorney” is a designation granted by the New Jersey Supreme Court to attorneys who are able to demonstrate sufficient levels of experience, education, knowledge and skill in civil trial practice. The Supreme Court, through its Board on Trial Attorney Certification, designates only those lawyers who apply for certification and who are able to meet the standards set by the Board and approved by the Court. Mr. Rothbort is an active speaker, participating on various panels discussing issues related to his practice such as Practical Evidence, Ethical Considerations for the Young Lawyer & Small Practitioner and Using Depositions & Discovery for Killer Cross-Examinations. He is an active member of the Essex County, New Jersey State Bar Associations and Brennan-Vanderbilt American Inn of Court. Mr. Rothbort presently serves as Chair of the Executive Committee of the NJ State Bar Young Lawyers Division as well as Trustee of the Essex County Bar Association.
