Ian Edward Vance

I was born in Texas and grew up in Lynchburg, VA. I earned my degree in Economics and Philosophy from the University of Virginia. Before attending law school, I worked as a paralegal for the Virginia Legal Aid Society in my hometown. My time there inspired me to pursue a legal education at the University of Richmond School of Law. After graduating, I began my legal career at two boutique law firms in Richmond that focused on consumer advocacy, often referred to as “private legal aid.” In 2020, during the Pandemic, my family and I relocated to Greensboro, NC. I returned to my passion for public interest work by joining Legal Aid as a senior attorney, where I focused on housing law. My work involved helping tenants secure rent relief funds and defending against judicial evictions. I am thrilled to join Maginnis Howard and continue my consumer practice, representing individuals in matters such as debt defense and predatory lending. I am a member of the National Association of Consumer Advocates and was honored to be named to the Super Lawyers’ Rising Stars list from 2021 to 2026. I have also presented several CLE topics on consumer-related issues. I am admitted to practice in North Carolina and Virginia, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia.
