Melodie Johnson-Lopez

Attorney Melodie López earned her Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Central Connecticut State University in 1991 before moving on to the University of Miami School of Law where she earned her Juris Doctorate in 1994. Her career began working in the public defender’s office, where she tried criminal cases. Later, she moved on to the state attorney’s office. From there, Attorney López started her civil litigation practice. It was in 2009 that she opened Lopez & Humphries, P.A., with partner Kevin Humphries. Here, they focus on many different personal injury cases, including those that involve commercial truck accidents, other motor vehicle accidents, and premises liability, among others. Collectively, Attorney López has tried over one hundred jury trials across several jurisdictions, including Dade, Hardee, Highlands, Hillsborough, and Polk Counties. Attorney López is an accomplished lawyer who has served on and was appointed chairperson of the Florida Bar Grievance committee, not once but twice. The Governor of Florida also appointed Ms. López to serve on the Judicial Nominating Commission for Polk County. She has a long list of television, newspaper, interview, and other media features on outlets such as The O’Reilly Factor, CNN, The Tampa Tribune, Nancy Grace, Univision, Bay News 9, NBC, ABC, Fox 13, The Lakeland Ledger, and The Orlando Sentinel, to name a few. When Attorney López isn’t in court or meeting with clients, she is serving as a member of the Polk County Trial Lawyers Association, as a board member of the Lakeland Bar Association, and as a coach for her kids’ baseball and soccer teams. She is competitive, driven, and always puts the needs of her clients first.
