James Papirmeister

James N. Papirmeister, Esq. provides criminal defense services, as well as civil rights representation, to those throughout Maryland and DC. He defends those who have been accused of violent crimes, homicide, assault, sexual offenses, rape, child abuse, child pornography, armed robbery, DUI/DWI & traffic offenses, theft, embezzlement, fraud, drug possession & distribution, & white-collar offenses, amongst many others. Mr. Papirmeister spent nine years as a prosecutor with the Prince George’s County State's Attorney’s Office, where he was dubbed the "Minute Man" in a 1994 newspaper article for his consecutive string of victories in homicide cases: Three separate juries returned unanimous verdicts of guilty to First Degree Murder, in one case after 12 minute of deliberation, in another after 6 minutes of deliberation, and in the third case, jurors told the reporter they decided the defendant's guilt after two minutes of deliberation. He then started his private criminal defense practice in 1996, and has handled thousands of criminal cases throughout his tenure of 38-plus years as a criminal lawyer. The Washington Post declared him to be "among criminal defense attorneys who are widely respected for their work", and the Washingtonian magazine included him as a "Top Lawyer" in criminal defense. Two of Mr. Papirmeister's recent cases involving police civil rights abuses, have been covered in national and local media. In one, local police were successfully sued for berating and handcuffing a five-year-old child at his Kindergarten; in another a jury awarded a substantial sum of money to a man falsely arrested in front of his own home while neighbors watched. Since 1996, he has been peer-review rated as "AV Preeminent" through Martindale-Hubbell, 10/10 "Superb" on AVVO, & is a Maryland & DC "Super Lawyer", as well as being the Immediate past chair of the Criminal Law & Practice Section of the Md. State Bar Assoc.
