Carlos Diaz-Cobo

I am a Certified Criminal Trial Attorney focused solely on criminal defense. My practice in state and federal criminal law involves representing individuals charged with crimes at the trial, appeal, and post-conviction relief levels. I was born and raised in Newark, NJ, and graduated magna cum laude from Rutgers University, New Brunswick. I majored in Administration of Justice and Sociology, with minors in Psychology and Political Science. Additionally, I earned a Certificate of Criminology and a Certificate in Public Policy from the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers. Afterward, I attended the Cardozo School of Law in New York City, where I graduated from a top-ranked program. While there, I was selected to join the Criminal Defense Clinic led by Barry Scheck, known for his work with the Innocence Project and the O.J. Simpson trial. I also participated in the Appellate Law Clinic, where I argued criminal cases in the NYC Appellate Court, and the Moot Court Honor Society, where I earned "Best Oral Advocate" in a competition judged by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Additionally, I was the first law student appointed to the City Bar Association's Death Penalty Committee, which submitted amicus briefs in the landmark case People v. Harris, resulting in the death penalty being ruled unconstitutional in New York. Since 2006, I have been practicing Criminal and Municipal Defense Law in New Jersey, providing affordable and determined representation for thousands of clients. I have earned the respect of courts, colleagues, prosecutors, and, most importantly, my clients. I am certified by the NJ Supreme Court as a Certified Criminal Trial Lawyer, a designation achieved by less than 2 percent of attorneys in New Jersey.
