About
For the past forty years, I have focused my practice on civil and criminal tax matters as well as other white-collar criminal investigations and prosecutions. Clients often seek my guidance on tax standards, penalties, and procedures. I am also an adjunct professor at New York University School of Law, where I teach a course on Tax Penalties and Prosecutions. I established the annual New York University Tax Controversy Forum and the Practicing Law Institute Tax Controversy Program. Additionally, I am a fellow in the American College of Tax Counsel and have served as chair of tax committees for various bar associations, including the American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, and New York City Bar Association. I am ranked in Band One of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, which describes me as having a, “smart reassuring presence with insight into the government…extremely knowledgeable and very well connected to the various taxing authorities…Clients applaud him as being exceptionally brilliant at coming up with great outcomes.” Chambers High Net Worth Guide highlights clients who have said I “have a ton of experience,” “have excellent judgement,” and “am very pragmatic and dedicated to my clients.” New York Super Lawyers has recognized me as one of the Top 100 lawyers in New York, and Best Lawyers named me Tax Litigator of the Year in New York for 2014, 2017, and 2025. I frequently speak nationwide on tax-related topics, and publications such as The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Forbes, Bloomberg, Reuters, Financial Times, Tax Analysts-Tax Notes, and Bloomberg BNA Daily Tax Report often quote me.
