Katie Elwart

Katie has spent her entire legal career advocating for her clients. She spent over 14 years as a public defender in Fulton County, representing individuals charged with felony crimes at the trial and appellate level. Most of her career at the public defender’s office was spent in the complex felony unit, representing people charged with the most serious crimes; murder, armed robbery, sex crimes and drug trafficking. More recently, Katie was a partner in a boutique law firm, trying cases and representing clients all over the Metro Atlanta area. Her many years in the courtroom have earned her a reputation as a fearless advocate who fights hard for every client. Katie has served as lead counsel in thousands of felony cases in both trial and appellate litigation, including over fifty murder cases and two hundred sex crimes. During her time at the public defender’s Office, Katie was an integral part of the Office Training Committee tasked with training other attorneys in litigation and trial skills. She also supervised attorneys both in court, and sat second chair assisting other attorneys during trial. Katie has frequently been asked to consult by fellow attorneys on their cases.
