Karen L. Gilbert

Karen Gilbert is a lawyer who for over 40 years represented immigrants, families and businesses navigating all areas of the immigration and nationality laws, including deportation defense, immigration benefits, Federal and agency litigation and appeals, and employment compliance. Now semi-retired, she is focusing on educating and empowering students, workers, volunteers, and their communities in protection of others asserting their Constitutional Rights resistance to daily assaults on the rule of law, standing up for Democracy. A founding board member of Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, she volunteers for an asylum project, KCBA neighborhood legal services and other non-profit organizations. Previously, she taught in the legal clinic at The American University Law School, was a lawyer with the Solicitor's Office, US Department of Labor. Ms. Gilbert is the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from NWIRP, a Pro Bono Award from WA AILA, and has an AV 5.0/5.0 rating by her peers indicating "Very High Ethical Standards and an A grade" Rating from Martindale Hubbell.
