James "Jimmy" E Courtenay

I am James "Jimmy" Courtenay, a founding partner of JJC Law LLC, a personal injury and litigation firm based in Metairie, Louisiana. I represent individuals and businesses in personal injury, transportation accidents, maritime injury, and insurance litigation, practicing in Louisiana state courts and all three federal districts in the state. What shapes my approach today is where I started: for over seven years, I defended insurance companies, trucking companies, and corporations in personal injury cases and insurance coverage disputes. That experience gave me firsthand insight into how insurers and their attorneys operate, how they prepare defenses, what strategies they use, and where they leave themselves open. I now use that knowledge to advocate exclusively for those they once worked to oppose. I handle a wide range of personal injury claims, focusing on cases involving 18-wheelers and commercial trucks, automobile and rideshare accidents, premises liability, and insurance bad faith. I’ve successfully taken cases through trial verdicts and appeals, argued motions before state and federal judges across Louisiana, and often assist other attorneys with challenging litigation matters. Since 2014, I’ve been recognized as an AV Preeminent attorney by Martindale-Hubbell, their top peer-review rating. I’ve been named to Super Lawyers in Personal Injury: Plaintiff since 2022, honored annually by The National Trial Lawyers as part of their Top 100 and Top 10 Trucking Trial Lawyers lists since 2020, and recognized as a Top Lawyer by New Orleans Magazine since 2023. I’ve also served as an adjunct professor in Tulane Law School’s Trial Advocacy Program and frequently speak at legal education events. Before my legal career, I played center and guard for LSU and was part of the team that won the 2003 BCS National Championship under Coach Nick Saban. Outside of work, I’m a husband, father, and devoted coach of several youth sports teams throughout the year.
