About
Ryan Black is a Boise personal injury trial attorney at Hepworth Holzer, where he represents injured Idahoans facing difficult and unexpected battles. He brings a rare mix of deep Idaho roots, extensive courtroom experience, and a practical, client-centered approach to every case. Ryan grew up in Featherville, Idaho, in the Sawtooth National Forest, where the outdoors was part of daily life. That upbringing shaped his connection to Idaho’s communities and landscapes, and he still spends as much time as possible hunting, fishing, hiking, and exploring with his son and family. Before law school, Ryan spent time in Boise’s theatre and comedy scene, including a third-place finish in Boise’s Funniest Person competition. That experience helped build skills that serve him well in trial: thinking on his feet, connecting with people, and staying steady in front of a crowd. During law school at the University of Idaho, Ryan worked with the Nez Perce Tribe, strengthening his belief that every person deserves a fierce and attentive advocate. After earning his Idaho law license in 2016, he clerked for a District Judge in Payette, where he observed jury trials firsthand and knew he wanted to be in the courtroom. Ryan then joined the Ada County Public Defender’s Office, where he managed a heavy caseload and tried more than ten cases to verdict in his first year. He later attended the Maricopa County Trial School and the National Criminal Defense College, sharpening his skills alongside accomplished trial lawyers from around the country. Before joining Hepworth Holzer, Ryan helped build a criminal defense and personal injury firm and tried more than forty cases to verdict. Ryan is a 2025 graduate of the Idaho Academy of Leadership for Lawyers and has been recognized by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star. Outside the office, he enjoys basketball with his son, time with his dog, Sunday dinners with family, pottery, plants, piano, sketching, and Idaho’s outdoors.
