About
Mark Bennett's practice centers on criminal appeals and post-conviction matters in Texas state and federal courts. He also tries cases. He is Board Certified in Criminal Law and Criminal Appeals by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Few Texas lawyers hold both. In a recent two-year stretch, he won nine cases at the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. That court does not give wins away. Bennett's caseload is deliberately small. Fewer cases means more time on each one: time to read the record, find the issue, and prepare the defense. He grew up in India, Thailand, and Germany before coming to Houston to attend Rice University. He graduated with honors from the University of Houston Law Center in 1995 and opened his own practice the same year. Bennett is a graduate of Gerry Spence's Trial Lawyers College. Both the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association have recognized his work in Houston and statewide. To get better at the job, he has studied psychodrama, improvisation, hypnosis, and the science of persuasion and leadership. He brings what he learns to his own cases and to the lawyers he trains.
