Tammy L. Wincott

I grew up in the Thousand Islands region of New York, close to the Canadian border—far from New York City for those unfamiliar with the area. In 1988, I joined the Air Force, which eventually brought me to Austin, Texas. After spending 15 years in Austin, I moved to San Antonio in 2003 to attend St. Mary’s Law School. Once I became licensed, I established my own law firm in San Antonio, where I continue to practice today. I am a Gulf War Veteran, having served during the Persian Gulf War, also known as the First Gulf War. During my time in the Air Force, I worked as an Air Traffic Controller—either in the tall control tower or the dark radar room, not on the runway with flags, as I’m often asked. I also served on the Honor Guard and received several awards, including being named Airman of the Year for the entire base. My profile picture often sparks questions—it shows me during an incentive ride in an RF-4 jet, part of the reward package for that recognition, not as a pilot. I became a lawyer at the age of 40, after gaining a wide range of life experiences. Before law school, I worked in construction and even owned a roofing company, among other roles. I believe starting my legal career later in life has allowed me to connect with clients on a deeper level, offering empathy and understanding to people from all walks of life. I truly enjoy meeting new clients and assisting them with their legal needs, whether it’s probating a will after the loss of a loved one, transferring inherited property, or planning for the future by drafting wills, powers of attorney, and other estate documents. Every client teaches me something new, making this work far more meaningful than just a job.
